The potential column is a published reference point. “Potential − OVR” is the difference between the two reported numbers, not a prediction of how much your player will improve.

EA describes development as responsive to performance, with Growth Profiles affecting the shape of a career. Coaches assess potential, and form, morale and match fitness affect Dynamic OVR. Your save can therefore diverge from a published figure.

Working with a small budget?

Start with the below-80 filter, then compare total contract costs. A lower overall does not guarantee a bargain or a loan. Keep money for wages and avoid signing several prospects who need the same minutes.

If your transfer budget is close to zero, check the start-of-save free-agent shortlist.

Before you sign

  1. Record whether you used initial or updated squads when creating your save.
  2. Scout tactical fit, future outlook, finances and willingness to join.
  3. Compare the player with someone already in your squad.
  4. Choose a realistic squad role and leave room for regular playing time.
